maybe it was one of the older o.s.'s that put the swap file at the beginning of the partition(?)... i can't find any documentation on it one way or the other... i'll check it out in the defragger, thanks.

the only way to completely defrag winxp is to do it before the o.s. is fully loaded... putting the swap file on it's own partition is very well-documented as the correct approach, but i do see the question about it's functionality on a video drive, because it might be getting accessed at the same time that you want to stream the video data.
