Need advice on NLE for PC

Leaving apple products. Mac pro's just to darn much. Edited it FCE and iMovie 6HD. Nothing professional but some home stuff and a few friends weddings. Looked at avid and premier. Seems both are still 32 bit. I built the following:
Dual quad core westmere E5640 2.66 Ghz
24GB ram
ATI 6950
Win7 pro 64

Been on Mac past 5 years. Windows the previous 15 yrs. Been reading the forums of both NLE's. Seems allot of complaints on both. I used to shoot with a panny hmc150. Sold it am currently researching for something else. Still using my Sony SR11 for now. What would work with the least headaches in windows? I hate getting half way through my work to get a lock up and lose everything. Still learning win7, which is a humongous change from XP, but seems good so far. Suggestions from folks currently using these would be appreciated.

Re: Need advice on NLE for PC

Most popular PC NLEs: Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas & Edius. They all have inexpensive "light" versions for around US$99. Choosing an NLE is a very personal thing. Best to download the demos and try them all yourself. On the PC I like Sony Vegas best, but YMMV.

Just to muddy the waters, FCP X is supposed to be released this month for US$299.00.

Good luck.

Re: Need advice on NLE for PC

Been kind of holding off until fcx gets released but dont have a decent mac computer to run it. I bought a 2010 mini after selling my 2008 mac pro to get me by but editing AVCHD will probably still need a hefty machine. Apple went nuts with the prices on current mac pro's so built my own for half the price. Ill take your advice to give the trials a shot. Was hoping to find some insight on these programs before i find out the hard way.

If you're looking for consumer (easy) editors check out PowerDirector from Cyberlink. It may fit your needs. Trial version available, runs in 64 bit mode, handles the popular HD formats.
