Has anyone turned internal drives into external drives
I see some good sales on Internal HDDs but I really need an external HDD for my Tricaster.
Has anyone used those HDD enclosures to turn Internal HDDs into external? |

I do it all the time. In fact, I am on my way to Fry's today to get another 200GB drive.
You can buy external USB 2.0 or Firewire enclosures that hold those cheap drives. I have three connected right now. I capture all my footage to the internal drive, and keep all my current footage on that drive. But everything else goes to the external drives for temporary storage. |

Yeah thats whats in the external drives are internal HDD put into an external enclosure. Its just a matter of finding an enclosure you like. www.newegg.com sells them for pretty cheap. Theres obviously other places to look but their prices are cheaper than Frys i know that. :)

I just paid $54 (after rebate and including taxes) for a 200GB 7200rpm Seagate Ultra ATA/100 - at Fry's.
You gotta love it. $0.28/GB !!! Last edited by Steven Gotz; August 21st, 2005 at 02:45 PM. |

Thanks I saw some cool enclosures with fans on sale at J&R in NYC and 250gig internal drives for $100.00.
That's a lot less than what I would have to pay for Western Digital or Maxtor external drives. |
