Firewire Card

I have a Dell Laptop that I'm using with my JVC DV camcorder to capture video. It works perfect until I attach the power adapter to my laptop, then it does not recognize the device. does anyone know what this means? Thanks....

Are you using XP? Do you plug in the power supply then power up?Do you power everything up then turn on the JVC?
