About mp3 files placed in FCP HD 4.5

I'm having a problem in FCP HD, everytime I place a import a .mp3 file and place it in my timeline (or canvas) it skips alot...I don't know why, nor can I figure it out...anyone else have this problem? My video audio works fine, it's just I can't seem to place a .mp3 file without it sounding like it's skipping all the time. (it doesn't skip when I play it on iTunes or anything like that)

Thx for the help guys..

One way to fix this is to convert it to AIFF or WAV, 48khz stereo 16-bit. If your project is 32khz, convert it to 32khz.
