reeldvd, dl media and menu's
Okay, have a problemo, questiono.
I have made some DVD's using ReelDVD, Dl media, and nero 6.6.0.8. The projects are about 2 hours so they are over 4.4 gig which is why I am using DL media. (Too expensive but.) So, on my Sony DVD player, everything works fine. But on a Go video player, when I go to the main menu, the background layer never comes up, its only black. Again, on my sony it works fine. Any ideas? Dave |

I've done many 2 hour DVDs on single layer so 2 hours being over 4.4 gig is NOT a given. You just need to use the appropriate bitrate.

I encoded with the max bit rate to get max quality.
(I know I can do lower bit rate and fit on one disc, which I have done, but better quality at the higher bit rate.) Dave |

double layer media is not yet compatible enuf to be a distribution format.
beyond that, you could try your disc on more than just two players. |

Is the issues with being a dist format the media, tools, players, etc?
If it were just the players catching up, then, making masters in DL would seem to be okay. But if the authoring tools, and or media are the issues, the, I need to stop using DL media. Dave |

that is a good question... dvd player penetration in america has made it the defacto standard, so the compatibility issues are going to have to be solved by the hardware/software/media used by the content creators... there probably won't be any significant change in dvd players until the hi-def stuff starts coming out.
please let us know how many players you can get the dual-layer disc to play on. |
