firewire external drive connectivity
Hi there, new to this forum. I have a Dell Dimension 4100 P3 1GHz (Windows2000Pro) with a Pinnacle DV500+ card. I was wondering is it possible to use the FireWire input (either the external ones or the on-board one) to connect an external FireWire hard-drive?
Any ideas? Thanks, Harris. |

I have the same DV500+ too and was looking to hook-up an external firewire drive from Promax ...
Well, it turns out that to be able to use an external firewire drive, I would have to install another firewire card separate from the DV500+ as my card didn't recognize it. So, I just went ahead and bought an external USB 2.0 80GB 5200rpm hard drive instead. Since I just needed storage portability and not to edit on, it works just fine. But if I had room in my computer, I might have gone with another firewire card and a firewire drive at 7200rpm just to have the option of editing on the external hard drive itself. It all depends on your needs. Good Luck. CK |
