Motherboard swap
I'm swapping the motherboard in my edit computer because of instabiliity problems with my Matrox RTX100E. Going from a Abit IC-7G to a Intel D875PBZ. Whats the odds of connecting the dual WD 36G SATA hard drives that are RAID 0 in my machine now to the new board and it working?
I'm guessing I'll need to do a complete new install of the OS and apps but would sure like to avoid that. Would it help any if I just did a OS install on a different drive and then hooked up the SATA RAID drives? Thanks |

Here you go... instructions on how to swap a motherboard without reinstalling Windows. 2- Did you try troubleshooting IRQ conflicts first? start --> run --> msinfo32 to see if the Matrox is sharing IRQs (IRQ sharing gone bad would be an IRQ conflict). If there's IRQ sharing you could try moving the Matrox into another PCI slot and see if the IRQs get reassigned. Or you could try disabling the device that the Matrox is sharing IRQs with. 3- I'm not sure if the Intel motherboard will retain the RAID. If you didn't setup the RAID on your abit board with ICH5 RAID then it's very iffy. |

Glen,
Yep, didn't find any IRQ conflicts, tired each of the PCI slots, still experienced random "Must Shut Downs" and even a few "the program just disappeared with no warnings". Can't work that way so I'm trying a board that Matrox has certified for the card. Frustrating but if it fixes it, it's worth it. Thanks for the link, great info. Rob |
