windows XP problem

Hey guys,
wondering if this has ever happened to you...

The "SHUT DOWN" button in the START menu of my Win XP Pro, is all of a sudden GONE!?!?

It's just not there anymore, at all.
The LOG OFF button still is, but absolutely no SHUT DOWN.

Anyone heard of this happening? I can't find info aobut it on the net.

Thanks.

CTRL-ALT-DEL time for me!

Try this:
hit windows key + R to bring up the Run... window.

Type in cmd
That brings up command prompt

Type in sfc /scannow
This scans your computer for corrupted files. You may need your winXP CD handy.

Does that fix things?

A similar thing happened to me a while ago, I don't remember it exactly though. But it was because of a virus. I would scan your system and make sure it's free of virii/spyware.

It could very well be a corrupted file, too.

Hey guys
No virii, no spyware, no corrupt files.

After I rebooted, my SHUT DOWN is now back. Strangely enough, I think this might have happened to my WinXP a while back.

It fixed itself.
When computers fix their own problems, I get nervous....
