Logging DV Tapes

Need (inexpensive) software to log DV tapes from JVC deck and print out library lists. I'm using the DVRaptor RT. Can anyone help?

Howdy from Texas,

Scenalyzer and Rex Navi come to mind immediately... and I thought Rex Navi was a free or fairly inexpensive utility. What I'm not sure about is its compatibility with DVRaptor RT. Or for that matter whether or not it will do what you want.

Check out this site: http://www.scenalyzer.com/

Hope this helps and all us Oilheads in the U.S. are really enjoying having your boys on tour here in the States, just wish they'd come further south.

You should have everything you need.
DVRaptor RT comes with Premiere 6.0 in the box.
Premiere has a very nice capture/log utility.

Of course if I had to work on a PC, I'd pickup a copy of Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video.
These are the same people that brought us ACID Pro music creation/editing software.
Vegas Video is very easy to learn and very powerful when placed in creative hands. All of my PC buddies have switched from Premiere to Vegas Video...well all except one, he bought a Mac and Final Cut Pro. ;-)

Chip & Chris,
The Navi program is great but won't work with Raptor RT. Chip, I need only the LOG facility and don't want to recapture the tape to PC which is what I understand Premiere and Scenalyzer do.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, John

Scenalyzer also has an option to scan a full tape in about 5 minutes (in fast forward mode) and will build a log of individual clips.

Another possibility is a program called CatDV.

Thanks Edward,

I tried Scenalyzer again last night and it DOESN'T capture. It simple splits up files AFTER capture by some other program. Its big brother, Scenalyzer LIVE, captures but wont work with Canopus cards.

Any thoughts, or am I missing something?

John

Yes, there is a difference between "Scenalyzer" and "Scenalyzer Live". Most people refer to "Scenalyzer Live" as simply "Scenalyzer". I, incorrectly, tend to do this as well. I know that Scenalyzer Live works well for what it does using standard OHCI cards. Here is a note related to Canopus cards in there latest release "fix" list:

20020505 added: Sclive supports capturing from the Canopus DV Storm's 1394 inputs.
You will need Storm drivers V.1.05 or newer!!!
Not supported: Analog Capturing, Playback and 16:9 picture format.

The latest version can be downloaded from:

Thanks Edward,

Looks like us poor Raptor RT owners miss out again. I appreciate your help.
