PC freezes when Camcorder is plugged in to Firewire

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help me, i've recently bought a Sony DCR TRV17E Handcam camcorder and shot a whole heap of footage whilst i was on holiday. I'm now trying to get the footage from the handycam onto my PC.

I bought a IEEE 1394 Firewire card for my PC, installed it, and it all seems fine. However when i plug the Handycam into the Firewire cable and turn it on, the PC freezes. WHen i turn the camera off, it comes back.

I'm running Windows 98 Second edition and have tried updating / changing the drivers but i haven't had any luck at all.

anyone got any ideas ??

Cheers
Mike

Mike,

For video editing, it is best to use Windows 2000. Windows 98 just isn't stable enough for the loads imposed and commonly causes problems
