Audio to mono?

My client has requested to have mono on both L R channel audio. I just like to be sure on the process of this.
first take the clip on the time line and pan both audio to Left.
I'd copy the same audio clip to another track and pan audio to Right.
Then I'd tune down the master volume to level.
Is this okay or is there a easier way to do this?
Thanks,
Takeshi

I'm using Canopus' Edius with a Storm 2 board.
If Final Cut Pro is better at this, I can switch over.
Thanks,
Takeshi
