Slow motion using pinnacle 9.4

Is anyone using pinnacle slow motion effects and is ther a better cost effective way to do this and get a better picture quality?

I use the speed effects in pinn 9.4 but I'm not happy with the results. Should I upgrade my NLE or is there another way to work around this problem.
I shoot in 60i (canon xl-2)

Any sugestions are welcome
