dual machine config questions.
I am trying to figure out some optimal configuration and I hope all you guru's out their can help me. I have been using Vegas, Acid, Cinescore, and all for a few years now and I recently purchased the CS3 suite with just about everything adobe has to offer so I am just coming up to speed on that as well.
I have mainly been using my P4 Hyper Threaded 3.8 Ghz machine with 2 Gig of ram and 3 SATA II drives. I recently purchased a Core 2 duo extreme laptop 2.8 Ghz (dell 6300??) with 4 gigs of ram and a 7200 rpm internal drive. So I am hoping to use the laptop for mostly daily stuff but have the horsepower to go on the road do some shoots, process and start work on projects. After checking with both Adobe and Sony it would appear as if I well within my EULA to have the apps on both machines pending I never use both machines at the same time. Because the P4 is a nice tower setup with lots (1.75G) of interal SATA space, not used as often as the latop, etc... I would like to use this machine for both editing and final rendering of projects. My question is this. Is it possible or even feasible to create full blown project on anyone of these machines and have it seemless to each other? What I was thinking and wanted som oppinions on is this: At home my network is reall fast Gig-E network and the P4 has all the raw footage, photos, graphic work, etc... on it's drives. I have shared all files through a few shares, and mapped common drives on both machines. I figure if all drive mappings appear the same and with the use of offline files, I should be transportable between machines and setups. THis should make all my project work identically on either machine???? While I know it may not be ideal for network serving of files and video projects I am at a loss for any other options. Opinions, comments, ???? |
