External Monitor / Canopus Advice

Hi all - know that this has been discussed before, but want to get something clear in my mind ...

I'm working with Sony Movie Studio and have just purchased an external monitor which I've hooked up via the PC > Firewire > spare Camcorder > Monitor method.

Two questions:

1) will replacing the camera with a box such as the Canopus ADVC 100 or 110 make any difference? (I think that it also allows for sound?)

2) Does the Canopus AcedVIO have any advantage over the above? Does it 'render on the fly' allowing for better playback at a higher leve of detail on the monitor?

Thanks in advance!
