Re: ordered the 5200
Congrats Mike! I've been researching the D5200 and looks like a great buy. For lenses I like something with a large aperture but won't break the bank. I find that Tamron's SP series lenses are a great value and often you can get an f/2.8 with vibration compensation (VC) at a fraction of Nikkor Glass. Currently I own 4 Tamron SP lenses and they sharp.
If I were to suggest a lens it would be a Tamron SP 17-50mm. Fast f/2.8, VC and just a good walk around lens. There is a cheaper version of this lens and it appears to be softer, so make sure your getting the right one. Here's the BH link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/652137-USA/Tamron_AFB005NII700_SP_AF_17_50mm_f_2_8.html BH Used: $479 eBay: Ends Soon - great price. Tamron SP AF 17 50mm F 2 8 XR Di II VC VR Zoom Lens for Nikon Fast 2 8 w BIM 25211005057 | eBay Personally I own this lens and it lives on my Nikon D5100. Often I can take low-light shots with no blur and it looks great. |

Re: ordered the 5200
Thanks. Ill def check out the tamron, ive always heard they are great. I cant wait to get the camera and try it out. Ive seen some really great nikon clips of the 5100 so the 5200 should be nice also. Even with the kit lens it looks pretty good outside from what ive seen
Just watched a few more clips with the tamron and it looks like a nice blend beteeen sharp but still filmic. |

Re: ordered the 5200
One thing i have to decide is if id rather get a 50mm or a 35mm. I like both but the 35 should be more versatile.

Re: ordered the 5200
Well just got the camera a little while ago. I borrowed a kit 18-55 nikon lens from a friend to test it out with until I get a lens. So far I really like the camera. It will take a while to learn how to use it but even with the cheap kit lens im impressed so far. I think it looks better than the t3i/t4i with the kit lens. I shouldnt say better but maybe more organic and old school filmy kind of looking which I like better.

Re: ordered the 5200
Bought a 5200 several weeks ago. Love it!! Been messing with the video this week, after focusing mostly on photography for the first couple of weeks.
I am using the 18-55 kit lens and the 55-200 Zoom that I bought with it. Going to try low light video with both lenses (just for fun!) tonight. My goal is to eventually buy the 50MM prime lens. But I have to earn some money first!! :) |
