Great article on Nikon D5100 video.
This article is the best I've seen yet on shooting video with the Nikon D5100:

Just found this one also to add to any D5100 video users out there. There's any embedded Youtube tutorial which is straight forward.
I just picked up a D5100 as my secondary camera. Setting Manual Exposure for Nikon D5100 in Movie Mode |

Re: Great article on Nikon D5100 video.
Thanks for sharing the articles. I just bought a 5100 to replace my D100. I wanted something to improve my low light pictures and to be able to take video when I want to. A little easier to have 1 camera that I can do both with.

Re: Great article on Nikon D5100 video.
I was in the market to get one of the canons(t3i,etc) when I stumbled upon some nice video footage of the 5100 so now Im considering getting a 5200. Is the 5200 recommended for someone who is primarily into video? I know nikon are superb at photos but I dont know much about nikons for videos but some of the ones Ive seen were excellent.
thanks |

Yeah the nikon looks really nice in the video. Do you have any complaints about the manual control of the nikon? Ive read some about that.

Re: Great article on Nikon D5100 video.
The D5100 I set my exposure and use the AE-L, this locks the exposure. I've gotten use to it. I think on the D5200 this was resolved.

Re: Great article on Nikon D5100 video.
Jeff,
I shot video on an event last week for the first time with my 5100. I have a lot of video camera experience so using this and not taking stills, was new to me. I shot a dance concert just for testing purposes. I tried locking in the exposure but it still went into auto mode, I think it's because the curtain would open and close and I would adjust my focus. Any suggestions or tips? I tend to shoot dancing and DJs on stage and I like the idea that I can shoot some stills and also shoot video. Just take one camera. The stills part I'm good, the video I'm working on. Thanks in advance. |

Place the camera in Manual. Go into 'Liveview" dial in your exposure and then hit the AE-L button. You may have to setup the "AE-L" button to be sure it locks exposure. I'll double check it when I get home tonight to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.
