Nexto NVS2500PRO problem
There are times when I use my Nexto frequently. For a while I was leaving it continually connected to its mains power supply in the same way as I leave my laptop connected to its power supply. As in the case of my laptop I could tell whether it was being charged or not by the charging status LEDs, typically the LEDs would be lit (i.e. charging in progress) for a few minutes after a download into the Nexto.
The mains unit failed and was replaced promptly under the warranty. However now the charging LEDs do not turn off as described above. I assume that if I do not turn the charger off charging will continue. I have contacted the local agent who in turn has contacted the manufacturer but as yet I have had no reply. I can still make an assessment of battery status using the Nexto's 3 bar charge indicator but this is not as satisfactory as the automatic cut-out. When the original mains unit failed the Nexto's battery became very flat, very quickly - i.e. in a matter of days, the Nexto was still connected to the failed mains unit, perhaps the mains unit provided a current leakage path.. When the battery is flat some of the Nexto’s memory disappears and it advises that it contains “NO BACKUPS”. This is somewhat disconcerting to say the least, fortunately when connected to a computer the backups can be found and downloaded. My guess is that the battery has been damaged by the full discharge and now does not reach a voltage sufficient to activate the cut-out. Anyone had a similar experience or have any other ideas? I am wary of Li-ion batteries and would like to solve this problem. |
