Videomic on HD2

I have bought an HD2 and recently got a videomic to go with it. however, in my recent tests I seem to get very quiet audio compared to the onboard mic. I can also hear a hissing which gets really bad when I turn up the volume. When I use the mic. on my pc there is no hissing but sounds over 1m away tend to be rather quiet.
The settings I have on the camera that I have tied are external mic vloume 4 or 5.
Other than the stated problems the audio is definitely better and there is no camera noise, which is great.
Any help in the next day or so would be really appreciated as I need it working properly for a project coming up. Thanks.
Toby

I was never able to make an external microphone work with my HD1.

I use a videomic on my HD1A.

You really cannot use the Sanyo Ext Mic Volume setting any higher than 2 or you get lots of noise. I use 2 for all interviews/dialog, and 1 for all loud stuff.

Make sure the attenuators are not activated inside the videomic and get really close to your subject. Works great. (I think, I'm no audio buff)

I need to turn the audio track up on dialog in final cut, and lower the dialog of loud sounds (engines, and so on).

Here is a little clip with some dialog, shot using HD1a and Videomic. (h264/mov/12meg)

Thanks, I tried lowering the input volume but I still got a slight hiss and the sound was way too low. i might try changing the battery.
