Sizing up the Xacti

I appreciate any of your input. I've got a JVC HD100 and I'm looking for a smaller camera for more everyday use and I'm wondering how the Xacti HD1 or HD2 size up with higher end (or maybe not higher end) standard def cameras, mainly the Sony DCR-HC90 or HC96. Has anyone had experience with both?

People say that the Xacti's HD footage, although not great, is probably better than any standard def camera footage out there. Does anyone know if this is true? Is the footage really getting better year over year or are some of these older cameras still superior? I just hear amazing things about the Sony HC90, but of course those ravings are from at least over a year ago. Have things improved so much?

The thing is that I really don't care about HD...I rarely use it on my HD100. I would also prefer miniDV to anything else out there, but on the other hand, I'm gonna go with the camera that gives me the best video and, less importantly, low light performance.

Really appreciate helping me out.
