Hey Don Bloom

If my memory serves me correct, don't you have your 501 head on your monopod. I was thinking of using this approach for a specific wedding I have coming, but I guess I would be concerned about the wear and tear on the gear if I keep taking it off the tripod etc. What do you think?

Hey Steven,
Yeah I used to use a 501 on my monopod but I hardly use the monopod anymore since I'm using a fullsize camera. When I did use it I loved it except for the added weight but there were many times it saved my butt. Such as setting a camera in a very tight place like a corner and being able to adjust the tilt. Remember my monopod has feet. It's the Bogen 682B so it's like a mini tripod. I also used it at receptions in lieu of a tripod and could open the feet and set the camera down for intros and toasts which as you know can run a long time. The ability to pan and tilt really came in handy. Of course you can't really have any drag at all on the head and a zoom controller really helps alot as well.
I liked the set up a lot but as I sad I've gone back to a full size rig as my main camera so I don't have the monopod set up with a head anymore.

HTHs
Don

Thanks Don,

I have a garden wedding coming, and I was trying to minimize the equipment impact at the front, my bogen tripods are nice, but even painted black they kinda stand out. So I had remembered your thread about putting the 501 on your monopod. I have the same monopod (after your recommendation) and was going to toss the head on it for this one ceremony. I'll give my idea some more thoughts.

Thanks for the comments.
