Double system audio for GoPro
I did a test with a GoPro with a Brunton "all day" battery, and a Tascam DR-10x recorder. The audio was synced in post with FCP-X.
The GoPro with Brunton battery doesn't pick up much audio since it's still sealed tightly. The battery is vulnverable to dunking but will tolerate splashing, and that's important in what I do. The Tascam DR-10X is very small, just about 2" square. It's connected to a Shure SM-11 dynamic "lav" mic thats 1" long and 0.5" diameter. Far from tiny. But it does a decent job of picking up audio anyway, all things considered. This was shot on my little boat. The Suzuki 4-stroke is fairly quiet but it does create enough noise to make it a challenge for FCP-X to sync the various clips using the audio tracks. FCP-X was able to sync all six clips with perfect lip sync. It'll be very handy when filming kayak fishermen who are sometimes out of range of wireless mics. The life vest is all we picked up that day. Fish weren't being very cooperative.
