XiaoMi Yi
Hi all,
has anyone tested the new action camera XiaoMi Yi? According to specs, it shoot 1080p@60 fps (with bitrate 25-30Mbit/sec) and has a Sony sensor. Price is cheaper than the entry-level Go Pro (Hero), and when I look at the video shooted with my GoPro Hero and the ones on internet (youtube/vimeo) with the XiaoMi Yi , it seems the XiaoMi has even better quality (for around 80CHF...). I am considering the XiaoMi as I would like a second action camera for my little kid and his tricycle...(and I do not need waterproof case). Any comment? |

Interesting... it appears to be a GoPro knock-off:
Xiaomi launches $64 action camera that can out-shoot the GoPro Hero | The Verge Can't find it on B&H, but it's at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Action-...8753808&sr=1-3 For that low price, I might have to buy one myself just to try it out. Xiaomi = show me |

Re: XiaoMi Yi
yes, I know...saw the vids.....it looks very good, albeit there are a bit or pros and cons reviews...hence was wondering if here there was someone trustworthy that had it, to ask his/her opinion :-)
in any case, as I already have a GoPro Hero (entry level), rather than buying a second low-level cam I will probably move myself to the AX1000 from Sony (whose I saw some comparison on Youtube and has a 4K quality which better than GoPro HeEro 4 Black), and will give the Hero to my kid ;-) |

Re: XiaoMi Yi
I do not think the 4K video on the new Sony is superior to that on the GoPro 4 Black. The Sony has much less dynamic range, and a blue tint.

Re: XiaoMi Yi
Personally I've owned XiaoMi (ShowMe) Yi and GoPro 4. You might be better off buying a Sony a5100 used around $175 and buying a cheap wide angle like Rokinon 12mm E-mount $319 or Canon 10-18mm IS $249 plus adapter. This increases the budget some but will yield more manual control for better results.
The a5100 has a Super 35mm Sensor, full manual control and can shoot 1080p60 in AVCHD. It will have less aliasing and moire. Limited WiFi controls but overall a better picture. Just a thought! Cheers! |

Re: XiaoMi Yi
Agree with Jeff
Go with the A5100. Sony action cams sucks.....I have the AZ 1VR.. Even if you shoot in XAVC the quality is way far behind from the A5100. Take care
