Yes, this is pretty exciting for some GoPro applications. I'm looking to mount several cams on an airframe and this may be a good way to control them. Note that the announcement says the smartphone/tablet application will be "available with a free future downloadable Wi-Fi BacPac product update". Hope that update isn't too far away.

Re: WiFi Backpack Now Available

Thats one innovative company.

Gotta love their business model; low priced no frills HD cameras, and then a host of relatively inexpensive accessories that you can buy as and when you need them. So far most of the accessories are upwardly compatible with their new products; so you stay in the family and keep your investment in accessories working into the future.

Shame that this Wi-Fi backpack doesn't work fully with the original HD Hero (no video streaming, only remote control) - but it just goes to show that there were some major improvements under the hood of the Hero 2.

Re: WiFi Backpack Now Available

I got the WiFi remote system.

It's great!

You can monitor battery status from the wrist unit, along with recording time and video modes. It starts in a fraction of a second after the "record" button is pressed. Range: up to 600 feet. More than enough for what I'm doing.

Battery life for the wrist unit is several hours. Don't know exactly how long it runs yet.

On standby, the camera will run for at least two hours. Sometimes as much as 2.5 hours.

With the WiFi BacPac on and the camera recording continuously, it went for just a few minutes over two hours.

Edit:
You will need to download the CineForm Studio software, then use that to separately update the firmware for the camera, the WiFi BacPac and the WiFi Remote. Only then will you be able to link the components. You'll need to connect your computer to each device with a USB cable.
