Unfriendly Suction Mount
I want to use the GOPro HD2 ( Motorsport version) inside a car. I can't configure the suction mount either to shoot through the windscreen ( unless the camera is hanging upside down and too far from the windscreen) or to shoot 2 passengers on the back seat. The mount never seems to twist where I want it to. Isn't there something called a universal joint ? Pity GoPro haven't heard of it !

Re: Unfriendly Suction Mount
Hang it upside down and rotate it in post is the easiest thing to do.
Doing other mountings is possible but not easy or cheap.

Re: Unfriendly Suction Mount
Well actually I can rotate it in the camera menu first but then the image on the LCD back is also upside down making it difficult to frame..

Re: Unfriendly Suction Mount
The cases are cheap enough to buy an extra and drill a hole so you can plug in the video cable. Use a hand held monitor to frame up.
I always have a field monitor with me for other things so if I get into a situation where the monitor back doesn't work well I just pop in the cable for a min.

Re: Unfriendly Suction Mount
The Hero and Hero2 have an upside down function that automatically records upside down for situations just like this (frame the shot then switch to upside down mode). Besides, the wide angle lens on the gopro would have the suction cup in the frame if you had it in front and below the camera on the windshield (with a few extra arms).
Alternatively you could get a suction cup camera mount with a 1/4-20 screw for regular cameras as they usually have ball mounts on them, then use the gopro tripod adapter. |
