Heero angle of view 'v' dslr lems
Guys,
Im considering a GoPro Heero for quick close up and underwater shots. Can anyone give me an example of what the 127 degree AOV they quote in 1080p would relate to in mm's with a lens on my 7D. I am hoping the Heero is going to be shorter than an 18mm on my 7D which ends up 28mm due to the crop factor. |

I don't have a 7D; the closest in terms of specs in my stable is a Sony Nex ( the same size sensor and ery similar crop rate) and the goPro is significantly wider than the nex is at 16mm. I don't know if that helps at all

Re: Heero angle of view 'v' dslr lems
Hi
The GoPro in 1080P is approx 5,5 mm for a full frame 24x36 DSLR and the equivalent of approx 9 mm on a 7D. There is a nice calculator for all AOV here: http://www.tawbaware.com/maxlyons/calc.htm

The Go Pro has what is effectively a full-frame-fisheye (FFFE), as it sees 170 degrees diagonally in the progressive mode (actually to be strictly accurate 180 degrees would be FFFE). Keep your fingers away from the front panel.
The 1080p mode gives you 127 degrees coverage, but as the barrel distortion is so huge it's difficult to compare it to 35 mm focal lengths. Let's say something like 10mm, or 15mm on the 7D. tom. |
