My Sony M15 has a problem.

I am trying to use my new Sony HVR-M15 DV/HDV deck as a pass through device between FCP and my Panasonic 1700 monitor. In pass-through mode the componet signal is very distorted on the monitor. It flashes a green screen with double image. It looks like some sort of sync problem. The S-video and composit are clean.

When playing back a tape the RGB componet out is also clean. It is only in pass-through with HDV/DV input selected and RGB out. Even with no DV firewire input the problem exists.

I have tried lots of menu changes and can not get it to work. I am starting to think that my unit has a problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone Have a M15 to confirm this?

I did some more tests and it seems that only a HD input will pass through to the componet out. SD input can only be displayed properly on the S-video or composite output, when in pass-through mode. Maybe my unit is not defective and this is just a quirk or my settings. Any M15 owners out there?

Sony has had some strange issues with pass thru from firewire. Not sure if this is the same issue but my friends Avid and my Canon XLH1 firewire outputs drives my DSR-45 outputs nuts while my FCP and Panasonic GS-120 are rock solid on monitoring. Sony's response was yes they do that and blamed the originating signal. It records okay but you just can't stand to look at it until playback.

Thanks Daniel. That is interesting information. I think i can live with the problem, but if mine is unique it has to go back. Maybe another M15 user will respond. Funny it works with a HDV signal in pass through. Maybe Sony isn't supporting DV any more. HA!
