Cannon lens records only black screen
I was recently shooting a personal shot for my parents christmas party and when I went to go test my cannon z28 which is one of my older camcorders...its recording screen was showing and shooting only a black screen. I checked the battery but it was alright and the lens would zoom in and out alright so I don't know what the problem is since I can playback old recording on the camera...I just can't shoot new ones

Can you check the model number of the camera? I am unaware of any Canon DV or Hi8 camcorder model "Z28." There is a ZR series of DV camcorders, including a ZR20, ZR25, ZR80 and ZR85 among many others.

Canon will fix this for free, including shipping both ways, even if the camera warranty period has expired.
The CCD is a Sony chip that is prone to failure over time and has been recalled. Details here on the Canon site: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...7&modelid=8620 I had the same thing happen, to a ZR65 I'd purchased used from eBay ... cheap. After describing the issue to the rep on the support line, they sent me a pre-paid shipping label, and sent back the repaired camera a week or two after I shipped it in. No charge. Good luck. |
