Digital8 Camcorder Doesn't Read Hi8/8mm
Just had a peerless Sony TRV250 Digital8 camcorder dropped in my lap yesterday at work. I was excited to finally be able to transfer/digitize a sizeable collection of old Hi8/8mm tapes (which were all recorded on old analog Hi8/8mm camcorders). Problem is, all I get is a blue screen when trying to playback. Is this normal? A quick record test on the same Hi8 tape shows it will playback that short, newly recorded portion. The rest stays blank/blue? Thoughts? TIA!

Re: Digital8 Camcorder Doesn't Read Hi8/8mm
Hi Ed,
The "entry-level" Digital 8 cameras do not play 8mm/Hi8 tapes, so I bet that is the case with the TRV250 based on the low model number. Higher-numbered (more expensive) models would offer more features including the Hi8 playback. EDIT: verified in Wikipedia that TRV250 does NOT offer analog playback - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital8 Thanks Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. Bummer. Might be time to look for a used Hi8 on eBay then. :)
