Sony DV deck: 24p into Mac?
Can this Sony DSR-11 DV deck output 24p?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/212935-REG/Sony_DSR11_DSR_11_DVCAM_DV.html Here's the specific setup: A super 8 transfer machine (which plays 24 frames per second) is hooked up to this DV deck with an S-Video cable. The deck is outputting the film into Quicktime X on a Mac through firewire. The problem is that quicktime is recording 29.97 interlaced! I don't see any preferences in quicktime. Would I be better off capturing through Final Cut? It seems to me that the problem is the DV Deck. I'm using NTSC... if I switch the deck to PAL what will the frame rate be? Is PAL 24p or 25p? |

Re: Sony DV deck: 24p into Mac?
Dvcam deck only records 29.97 video. Don't know if there is any way to output or record a 24 frame native recording in DV. You should be able to remove pulldown once you have it in the computer. If the DV deck is recording from the super 8 transfer device then the signal is 29.97 anyway.

Daniel is correct. 24P over 60i was the standard. As well, the NORMAL frame rate for amateur use of Super8 is 18 frames per second, not 24 although many more "pro" level cameras allowed for film to be run at 24fps as well...
