And to think that we're worried about the future availability of DV tape!
Sony has just pulled the plug on the Video8 format (the predecessor to the Hi-8 format) and Sony will cease production of 8mm digital VCR recorders in September. Video8 tape will still be available to consumers, though. See here for more details. Andrew |

Hi Andrew, do you know if the GV-D200 is still available anywhere ? I have a huge number of Hi8 tapes i need to archive.

Per the linked article, they cease production of that model in September ... so you're in with a chance.
Perhaps a DVinfo approved purveyor of video gear might be able to order some in? Andrew |

Yeah, thanks Andrew. If they are still in production, then I wonder where they are all going? No one seems to have any in stock, especially the PAL version.
Oh well, guess I'll have to resurrect my old EVO-9850. |
