No more Pana cleaning tapes to Oz.
I heard from a couple of Panasonic retailers this morning that Pana are no longer bringing in their mini DV cleaning tapes to Oz. Time to stock up.
Cheers.

Might as well use Sony tapes, then. :-)

IMO it's more than that Andrew. Although Pana still has cleaning tapes listed on their Oz site they've only got 4 in stock with apparently no intention of restocking .. 2 retailers got that info when I asked for some. But they still sell DV recording tape but for how long?
At this years CES in Vegas of the 49 new consumer vidcams released only 1 was DV tape and it's the current Canon HV40. I've got more than 150 Pana tapes in clients archives which they all understand will still be playable for years to come. So what brand cleaning tapes are compatible with Pana brand? And don't say dub them all over to DVDs and go solid state .. although that might be an option later. Cheers.

My sales guy in VideoPro in Brisbane has told me that in the last 3 months there has been a noticeable shift away from tape based cameras to those that record to solid state media.
Still, there would have to be a lot of tape based recording going on out there and enough to warrant continued production. Can't imagine tape stopping for a while yet. Anyway, you can always use a Sony branded cleaning tape if you need to. Or order your usual one through an outlet in the USA if the Australian channels are not prepared to supply them. Andrew |

Ok. I found a supply here and ordered 10 .. I figure they'll be a sales incentive when I sell the Canon A1 .. I hope I hope :) Also need to maintain other tape cams.
Cheers.

Andrew .. the 10 new Pana cleaning tapes have arrived and I've started planning the (possible) change over to the new Canon XF300 and selling my A1 with accessories and some tape stock.
Talking with some others it's advisable to keep an eye on your favourite DV brand .. rather than suddenly find out there's no more. Cheers.
