Tape is always in sync ... can't be otherwise. So it is all up to the software that transfers the file to your HD -- if it generates Type 2 files, it can drift out of sync (witness the XL1) but Type 1 will also never be out of sync regardless of how long the capture. The RT nature of the recording process forces sync, always.

Unlocked audio is not unsynced audio, and it will never be out of sync on tape ... but even 'locked' audio could be out of sync if the software that created the Type 2 file was poorly designed ...
