(newbie question) Cleaning Tape Heads?

How does one "clean" the tape heads on a Sony VX2000? We have had ours for over two years and no cleaning has been done. Is there a tape or service that will do this? Yes, I am pretty new at this. Thanks for your patience.

Vince,
Welcome to another Chi-town guy!

I've been using PD150's for over 2 years now and have only clenaed the heads on 1 of them 1 time, there were some dropouts and pixelation. Otherwise, my feeling has always been, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you're not having any problems with the camera I would leave it alone however if you really feel you need to clean the heads you could send it to Sony (not that I would...) or you could run a cleaning tape thru. Use the same brand as the brand of tapes you use follow the direction to the letter (if it says run for 5 seconds make it 5 seconds not 6) and you should be back in business.

Cleaning tapes are not specific to tape brands. We had an entire thread about this recently. Sony, for example, stopped retailing their cleaning tapes in the UK. When questioned, Sony responded with purchase another brand from your local retailer.
