Who makes my TDK miniDV tape?
I have 2 weeks left of shooting for a project and I'm fresh out of tapes. I've been shooting on TDK this whole time but the store where we purchased the tapes for an amazing price no longer carries them. Found a place that sells to production companies at good prices, but they don't carry TDK, but informs me that the Sony-PR tapes are the same thing. I thought TDK was made by Panasonic?
The tapes I've been using are DVC60, but they say DVM60ME under the upc (which I'm assuming is the parts number). Anyone able to shed any light on this? I know the whole different tape brands thing has long been worked out, but I've read enough about it to make me paranoid and I want to stay with the same or similar tapes if possible. Suggestions? My research points to DVC60 tapes being made by Panasonic but DVM60 tapes being made by Sony. |

According to TapeStockOnline:
"What I can find from direct experience of these OEM arrangements is that Panasonic makes Canon and JVC tape. Sony makes its own tape. TDK makes its own. I do not know who makes Fuji, Maxell or other tape brands. " Mini DV FAQ Section: Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, TDK, Maxell, JVC DVC MiniDV Tapes Hope that helps. John |
