How Time codes from XL1 to VHS?

Is there any way to use the XL1 to put timecodes onto a vhs tape? We can see the time codes through the eyepiece as we use the XL1 as a VHR using RCA cables from the XL1 to the T.V. But when we record onto VHS tape, the time codes do not show. Is there a setting on the XL1 that will put the time codes onto the VHS tape as you are recording over to it?

What we do is take like 6 hours of mini dv and convert this into a 30 minute video. We use many cut aways of like 2 or 3 or 4 seconds, so we like to go into the editing studio with all of our codes already pulled. We are trying to make this easier on our editor by not having to have him use his time code machine to burn time codes onto a VHS tape for us. It seems that since we have the XL1, the XL1 is showing the time codes through the view finder, and we can record from the XL1 mini dv to a VHS tape, that somehow we should be able to have time codes appear on the VHS recording we make. I hope this is making more sense....

No, there is not a switch or setting to facilitate TC going to the tape as SMPTE TC. Do you need the time burned in or actual SMPTE TC?

SMPTE TC can be done through external devices that will decode the DV time code to SMPTE and put it on the linear audio track or do VITC.

Using the remote control, you can burn the data code onto VHS.

By using the remote control, you can show the time codes on the monitor/tv. Then just record this and the time codes will show on the vhs tape! thanks for your help, Jeff!
