Professional tapes at DVinfo.net

Is there a real difference in professional miniDV tapes and that of sony that I could get at walmart? I mean, I could get 5 tapes for $20 at walmart, but the video shop here sells pro tapes for $12.99 each. I didn't even know there was such a thing until last week. Is there really a difference?
