Head Clean in VCR Mode or Record Mode?

Hey guys, I have an XH A1 and it's time for me to use a head cleaning cassette.

I've never used one before and the directions simply state to "play the tape for 10 secs".

This means to put the camera in VCR Mode and play the tape for 10 secs, correct? As opposed to recording on the tape for 10 secs???

I just want to make sure I know whether 'play' means play in VCR mode or Record Mode. Thanks for your help.

I think my Sony cleaning tape says either way is fine. Record 10 secs, or Play 10 secs.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and just played it 10 secs.

Just to make sure I did it right... when I hit play on the camera's VCR button... I saw the play symbol come up and it seemed to be playing, but there wasn't any timecode displayed... so I just counted the 10 secs and pressed stop.

Is this how it usually is? I guess it worked, eh? Thanks.
