Stupid purchase - I'm dim!

I've a number of GY-HM cameras in my studio - 700s, although to get there there were 100 and 200 series before. Anyway - I'm away from home for a couple of months and have two of the cameras with me. I saw on ebay a guy selling a lens - I saw wide angle ⅓" bla bla and put an offer in, £75 less than his asking price. Brand new - bought for a project but never out of the box and when it arrived, this was absolutely correct. I plonked it on a camera instead of the other, and powered up. all worked great so turned it off. Today I finished with the current project so had both in the office and thought I'd check how wide it went.

Confusion set in. Wide on both was so close I was confused. I'd bought a normal lens - just the 17:1 Fuji version of the 14:1 Canons on the others. So I went back to the advert - not a mention of wide and the 17:1 spec was so obvious - so I have a lens that goes run closer, and no wider. The total opposite of what I thought I'd bought. I suppose I will pop it on ebay and at some point somebody might buy it, or maybe put one of the Canons there instead.

Anyone else been stupid with purchases because they simply didn't read the ad properly! Not even thinking of returning it because it's totally my fault! I'm simply stupid!

Re: Stupid purchase - I'm dim!

Well I recently purchased, also via ebay, a used Benro carbon fibre tripod with a 75mm bowl.
Unpacked it, oooh, very nice and much shorter when closed, which is what I was after, than my old Gitzo legs.
Stuck my new Sachtler Ace head on the Benro. It wouldn't fit! I could neither tighten the head nor pan it.
The Benro 75mm bowl fitting, detachable like eg the Gitzo one, has a ridge around the interior presumably so it can only be used with a Benro bowl adapter and a Benro head.
Taken it up with Benro UK distributor and news to them. Need to send them some video, might even send them the whole caboodle, the tripod.

Re: Stupid purchase - I'm dim!

That's a pain - you just check the bowl diameter and assume that is that! I actually got a wide angle in the end, but i got the whole thing, so a spare camera!
