How Old is my 700 and What is the Red dot?

Hi

Could anyone tell me from my GY 700 serial number, how do I find out how old my camera is? Or when it was made?

This would be helpful to know as I think my camera is older than what the supplier is saying.

Also on my footage I seem to have a red dot that does not go away any idea what this could be?

Thanks

Kind regards

Andy

Do you have the original transport box, the date is on a label. Mine is like this :20090311 - which is obviously 11th March 2009 and serial number 084G0110. This may help if your number is before or after this one.You will be able to get an idea of the age by checking the firmware version. To get that you need to access the service menu. You have to hold two buttons at the same time as switching on; the Focus Assist (not the one on top of the handle) and the Display, hold them down as you switch on.Once it is on press the same focus assist and menu buttons at the same time to get to the service menu, you'll be able to see the firmware version, the latest is SPL1031 V0107.
If it is lower than this you can get an update either a DIY download or return to JVC. The instructions are on the JVC site.

The Red Dot may well be a stuck pixel. You should be able to get rid of that in the same menu. Go to Advanced Function and then Pixel Compen Det and press the centre button in the navigation control (inside the blue LED ring. That should correct any faulty pixels.

Hope this helps.
