Sorry - used the Send an E-mail to... function. That's what I get for being "Semantic Boy"...

Yes, you can use the Sony 26-pin multicore cable. The cable has different pin settings, but this can be switched in the CCU. This will save you the trouble of having to buy new cabling if it already exists.

790

Craig, is there any advance in the image quality (sensors, processing etc) over the 251 ? Low light performance ? Also, any improvement 4:2:2 HSDSI output (like 12 bit) ? Thanks !

Hmmmm...what's the word on the new Low Light version = GY-HM790LL?

-- A specially configured low light version of the camera, the GY-HM790LL, has JVC’s patented LoLux function that provides ENG users with image capture in an extremely low light environment. The LoLux version will be available to broadcast direct customers beginning in the Fall of 2010. --

Don't get TOO excited... I'm pretty sure JVC didn't find a MAGICAL sensor kicking around - it's probably a Hypergain setting much like Sony's on broadcast cams. Sony uses a combination of high gain setting, accumulative light and line twinning to get a "usable" high gain setting for near darkness for ENG. This sounds like a similar set up (which IS a good thing for those of us that do shoot news and other verité material).

I haven't read anything about chromatic aberation compensation (ala Panasonic) to take advantage of the cheaper 1/3" lenses. Does the 790 incorporate it or something like it?

I don't think so, the CA-correction reduce some CAs on Panasonic-Cams, but only horizontal, the diagonal and vertical-lines/CAs can be seen on screen.
