Power off KA-MR100G?
I'm shooting with a 700 w/ the recorder, but only using SDHC cards, so the SxS recorder is just sucking down power. Right now, each time I turn on the camera, I turn off the unit by pressing the power button, but I'd like to get rid of this extra step.
I'm wondering if anyone knows to set it up so the KA-MR100G SxS recorder does NOT turn on when I turn on the camera? (And if I need it, I'll just power it on manually.) I looked through the menus on the camera & recorder & couldn't find anything that would take care of this. thanks!

Well, while I don't know of another setup, I have a solution for you. Remove the SXS recorder till you need it. I bought two GY-HM700's, one with the SXS and one without, BUT 99% of the time, neither one has it attached. It's really easy to remove, just a few screws, a few connectors and BANG, it's off. Save it for when you need it.

You can't turn off the KA-MR100G automatically. It's annoying i know I struggle myself with it. If you remove the unit and you don't have the latest firmware upgrade you can't record with the mp4 wrapper. JVC has purchased the sxs license from sony with the latest firmware upgrade so you don't need the KA-MR100G for only mp4 recording on sdhc cards.
rumor has it that JCV/Sony is working on a 50mbits recording speed (instead of the 35mbits now) in combination with the KA-MR100G and SxS cards. |

oooh 50mbs... (sound of Homer Simpson drooling) good reason to get a SxS if the deal is right for the just in case factor.
