HM700 and hard disk
Hi all,
I have just ordered a HM700 and expect it to be with me next week - can't wait :-) However, I have a question - don't know if anybody has tried it out, but ... I have a Sony HVR-DR60 Hard Disk Recorder - can anybody see any problems connecting this thing to the HM700 via Firewire - and record to the hard disk for backup-purposes? I realise that I probably will use the files on the cards for normal editing, but it sure will be a comforting thought to have an extra copy on a HD. I don't know what format is put out via Firewire - but read that it should be downconverted SD. Don't say me much, though. So... any experts out there? Kind regards Peter |

Hi, I think the drive will work, but on Firewire/IEEE1394
can you output an HD-Signal or you can Downconvert to SD over the Firewire-output. I think it's a good backup for you. Regards Eric |

Only "SP" 19Mbps or 25Mbps CBR rates will allow HDV emulation through firewire for m2t recording. "HQ" 35Mbps VBR rates won't work with HDV recorders, but all modes can be downconverted to DV.

Thanks, Tim and Eric,
Sounds good. Will be more than happy just to have a (lower quality) backup. Once I have the camera, I will test the function and let you all know the outcome. The Sony HD is a nice piece of equipment, and if it works with the HM700, there's no point in selling it together with my current camera (Canon XH A1). Peter |
