HM100 advice on manual focus needed.

I don't like using AF so with the HM100 I have been trying manual focus but with poor results. Do others have a method that works?

1. I zoom in to the subject and then focus. I then zoom out to frame my shot as I would with a PD100. The shot is no longer in focus. I have also experienced the autofocus re-focus problem that occurs after a zoom – which is perhaps related.

2. So, I turn on focus assist. I get red lines around objects and assume the shot is in focus. In FCP, the shot is really not focussed. I do notice that the focus assist outlines things in red that are not even on a similar focal plane.

Any suggestions, please?

Not sure about you second problem but in the first case make sure you have "tele macro" turned OFF. Than you should be fine.

Simon, I would get the camera checked out. I have never had that problem with my HM100, the peaking has always been a very accurate aid to focusing.

Thanks for this. Unless I turned it on by accident the tele-macro was off . But I'm going to find time to test both focus methods again tomorrow.
