Shutter Angle for Europe shooting HM 100 60HZ

Need advice. I have a shoot in Cern Switzerland in mid October for NASA. We would like to shoot the entire project in 30p. The facilities we're shooting at have mercury vapor and flouries. So they're running at 50Hz. How can I compensate shooting with a camera in 60 Hz while in 50hz land.

Is there a shuttle angle or speed i can use to avoid flicker????
Is 24p close enough to 25p that i can shoot with a 48 frame shutter??

Why want you use 50hz shutter while shooting 30p, or 100hz if you have enough light.
Dosent your camera support it?

No I'm afraid you don't understand. The electrical in Europe runs at 50Hz. In the U.S. it is 60Hz. My camera runs at 60Hz. So any lighting in Europe will flicker because it running at a different cycle rate than the camera, I don't want to shoot 50Hz camera.

I used 1/100 in Lithuania in big rooms with old lights (flos and others) and I had no flicker.

I shot 1080/60i video on a Canon XH-A1. The rule from what I understand is to shoot a multiple of 50.

1/100 requires more light, but it also gives better frame grabs.

Ideal I suppose might be to shoot 1/50 sec. Does the HM100 allow this? Obviously, it should, since it is a cross-standards camera... but then it should have 1/120 shutter speed for shooting 1080p/60 for slo-mo in a 24p timeline, but it doesn't (even though there seems to be no other reason not to than to hobble the camera).

So... I just checked, and here's what the HM100 offers:
In 60/30 modes, you get 1/100 shutter speed, but no 1/120
In 50/25 modes, you get 1/120 shutter speed, but no 1/100

So, it seems the thinking is that you get 1/100 and 1/120 for cross system shooting, BUT... since the HM100 is primarily, foremost and for all time an amateur camera, you are not allowed 1/50 or 1/60 in cross mode shooting IN CASE you aren't smart enough to know the correct shutter speed for your continent when you are doing normal shooting on your continent in the standard mode for your continent.

Amateur all the way, and I believe unacceptable... but I doubt JVC will EVER comment or explain on this kind of nonsense that comes with the HM100 "PRO" camera.

Another option is to shoot 25p with 1/50 shutter and slow it down 4% to 24p.

Or, use a different camera that has appropriate shutter speeds.

Hi David.
Make sure to use a reference monitor while setup the shooting.
As the on-board viewfinder and LCD flip-out do not show that flikker problem properly.
I experienced it myself, shooting 60p with 50Hz MSI bulbs. It looked ok with the viewfinder, but when I got home I was scratching my head.
I used The Foundry Furnace DeFlicker plug-in to compensate.
Use your own extra lighting if possible for the interviews. And shoot in 25P for those shots were you shoot static shots.

Thanks Marc. Good advice. I plan on using Litepanels LED's for interview lighting and balancing daylight and letting the background just go. Using an Ikan monitor via HDMI.
