JVC HM100 low light sensitivity and resolution!
I tested the GY-HM100 camera low light sensitivity and resolution:
Resolution: The video resolution of the HM100 was tested by shooting a ISO12233 video resolution chart. Shooting in 1080/30P mode, the camera produced a horizontal resolution of 680 lw/ph and a vertical resolution of 680 lw/ph. Low light sensitivity: In 1080/30P mode (f1.8, +18dB gain) the camera required only 5lux illumination at 50IRE. |

Thanks Peter!
Any idea how these numbers compare to other popular cameras? Quote:

1080/50i for both - I set the picture profiles to look similar (but not exact) and asked several people (3 pro and 4 non pro) to tell me which one was better and which one they thought was the expensive cam (ex1) All said the pictures looked good from both cams and couldnt pick a better one over the other one. All said this. 2 pro's got the EX1 right and 1 non pro did! So all in all - If most people can't tell the difference in pictures from the HM100 from an EX1 that's got to say something for the small sensors! |

Yeah. I mixed the footage from both EX1 + HM 100. I could tell the diff under bright lightings but with some editing the look can be similar, esp when both are shot on neutral settings.

1.8 @18db needs 5lux isn't a good camera. Nor the 680 lines.
I don't see how those numbers are good. My HV30 has over 600 lines of resolution and has 3db need of light with 25fps and cinemode. But not all shootings are progressive. At interlaced things will be even worse. |
