specific tape question...
hello gang
im the proud new owner of a jvc hd 100.. i bought the camera with 100 hours on the drums. the seller told me that he always used the sony "premium tapes" the ones that come in the blue wrappers. i went to the store yesterday to get myself some tapes and noticed sony makes an HD tape comes in a grey/ beige coloured wrapper. i would like to use the best possible tapes and im not to worried that they cost a bit more. """ my question """"" 1 - if i switch over to the HD tape after knowing that the previuos owner only used one specific tape do i risk causing harm to my camera. ??? 2- if i just keep on using the blue wrapped sony tapes. am i getting the full performance out of my camera. ??? thanks to all of you who post on this forum im new and the knowledge here is endless... ps. i bought this camera to film a feature that i have just finished writting and for me spending a little more to have the "best" quallity of tapes is money i can justify. thank you MEKHAEL |

Welcome Michael,
There has been a very thorough discussion on what tapes to use. Unfortunately, things get buried quickly, and searching isn't that effecient. This is an are where different opinions have been voiced, but most agree that choosing one tape stock to use consistently is best. Getting a head cleaner tape is a good move, use it if you must switch brands, and now before you start since prior use is a mystery. You can't go wrong with JVC's HDV tapestock if you don't mind paying the premium.
