I'd be 95% sure it's JVC made, but I'm not sure why that is important...It's unbranded, but even if parts are outsourced, it is what it is...
It's compact, with a pattern appropriate and quality adequate for recording ambient sound, but not really suitable for recording dialogue or other critical audio. Camera mounting a mic of course has built in limitations, but using a mounted higher end shotgun would help in many situations. Just be aware that by choosing a more focused mic that rejects more sound from the sides, that camera panning can produce distracting level changes...
