Variable frame rates for PC users please

Hi,

I am new to all this variable frame rate stuff. I edit on edius 4 and use pro coder for conversions and Adobe encore for authoring. I shoot with a JVC 111. Now, if I shoot HDVSD60P or 50P how do I best use this for slow motion. WHen I go to convert M2t file to canopus HQ I can not find 60frames, it only does up to 30FPS. Can I mix frames rates on a timeline or what do people do there. What frame rate do people output at for use on dvd. They sound like dumb arse questions but with all these different frame rates I am getting myself confused now. I hope you guys can help. PLease ask me if you need anymore info.

Look forward to your response.
