GY-HD-100/play tape from Z1

Can I play a tape that was filmed in a Sony Z1 (1080i) in my GY-HD100?

I have tried it a few times and all I get is a black screen, although, it is picking up the TC.

Does anyone know if you can make it work?

Thanks,

Mike

Perhaps I don't understand.....I don't know what the settings on the Z1 were when the footage was shot 24F, 60, 50, 30???? And this could be where I don't understand; could there be a situation where you could shoot a tape on a Z1 and play it back on the GY-100(A)?

Thanks,

Mike

HDV 1(720P) and HDV2 (1080i) are very different, and currently there is no one camera or deck that will play both formats.

As I understand it the sony HVR-M25U will play back 720p60 out of its component outs. No iteration of 24 fps though.

For what it's worth.

That's not true. Sony's HDV2 (HVRM15U) deck plays back 720P, albeit only in downconverted component out. Still, that's acceptable for much work, if it's bound for an SD destination. JVC doesn't offer the same feature. It's a shortcoming, since the Sony deck actually costs less retail. http://tinyurl.com/g4uxl

Besides, the BR-HD50 will upconvert playout of 720 material to 1080i... I'm not an engineer, so I really shouldn't speculate on how much more would be required to play back a 1080i format tape, even as a downconverted signal. But Sony does play 720p to be sure.

No - it won't play.

You can set the GY-HD100 to OUTPUT 1080i as well, but it only reads HDV1 (720p, that is) and DV from tape...
